Overview:
Join us for the first three steps in the 10 Step Series for SMT. Step-by-Step is SMT’s how-to guide to the surface mount process. Written for the entry-level practitioner, this series presents one easy-to-understand article per month over 10 issues. In Step 1 (Board Design) the board designer takes under consideration the board’s function, all rules required, the demands of the OEM, the components to be used. Then using computer-aided design, the designer begins the process. Step 2 (Process Control) involves how process control software can eliminate pre-process faults and avoid in-process ones. Step 3 (Solder Materials) reviews making the right solder paste choices with an emphasis on lead-free materials.
